Julia Robinson et al. "The Anarchy Of Silence : John Cage And Experimental Art" Book
Museu D'Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) / Henie Onstad Art Centre (2010) - 9788492505142

Kr 270  -  € 26.26

Description: "John Cage (1912-92) defined such a radical practice of musical composition that he changed the course of modern music in the last century and shaped a new conceptual horizon for post-war art. This book traces a path through the artist's career, from his initial works in the 1930s, pieces that broadened the parameters of percussion music by incorporating the most unconventional of instruments, leading to his 'prepared piano', moving to his famous theory on 'silence' (and the score 4'33"), his pathbreaking deployment of chance and then indeterminacy, and culminating his innovative multimedia work, which began in the 1960s and continued through the 1980s. With this book, the MACBA aims to capture the relevance of Cage's contribution to present day contemporary art. One of the sections will chart the network of repercussions as Cage's radical conceptual transformation of 'composition' entered the strategies of advanced art."

This edition was printed for the John Cage exhibition at Henie Onstad Art Centre, Høvikodden, Norway, February 25 - May 30, 2010. Paperback, 304 pages, in English.

Ijin "Northway & Down" CD-R
My First Record Label (2010) - Ijin Demos 002

Kr 60  -  € 5.84

Featuring: Christian Blandhoel

Description: Alienated, structureless, improvised sound/music; Performed on stringed amplified SONIC devices/customized guitars, drone laden, random compositions, chance and improvised. Ijin is not a noise community generated project, but borne out of visual-art, a progression of harmonic instrumental rock and the cultivation of the droning nature or potential of the guitar. The soundscape attempted lays between Noise and harmonic-noise through improvisation, where the sound reflects the search for a soundscape that dare become nothing, but will allow a composition to form should the sound arise. The Feedbacker is the basis of this first incarnation of Ijin, a self-propelled, feedbacking, self-sustaining guitar manipulated by stomp boxes mounted onto the guitar body: in using the guitar as the basis of sound, but altered in such a way that the guitar is feedback driven, self-generating, creating a sound that is random and unpredictable but can be manipulated or harnessed. The idea is to utilize this Noise potential but allow the instruments harmonic nature to bleed through, in such creating sound within the landscape of noise but with a harmonic potential. The Feedbacker is a result of the My First Record Label art project. Ijin is a fluid union: Either performing Allein = Solo or Orchestra = with others. Not neccesarily in a band-structure or with regular members. All performances/sessions are improvised, creating a dynamic, unpredictable, exploratory new setting for every performance.

Jazkamer "Matthew 28:17" CD
Pica Disk (2010) - pica022

Kr 103  -  € 10.00

Featuring: Lasse Marhaug & John Hegre

Description: On "Matthew 28:17" Jazkamer for the first time in the 2010 Monthly Series operates as its core duo of Lasse Marhaug and John Hegre. This reduction does little to lighten the density of their sound, rather the opposite, because "Matthew 28:17" is a thick haze of dopey fuzz-guitars and droning organ. For the longtime Jazkamer fan this album bears similarities to the 2002 mini-album "The Sound of Music" – which often has been thought of as a highlight in the Jazkamer oeuvre.

The themes of "Matthew 28:17" are a mix of the subjects astronomy (both Hegre and Marhaug are keen space-enthusiasts) and religion (but neither are particularly avid churchgoers). This duality and conflict of science and spirituality is expressed as Dionysian ecstasy through primitive psychedelic noise music. Jazkamer offers no answers on these difficult matters, but hope that their listeners will join them on their dance around the campfire.

The cover artwork of "Matthew 28:17" is by Japanese visual artist Yasutoshi Yoshida, also known as recording artist Government Alpha.

All profits from the sales of "Matthew 28:17" will be donated to NASA.

Jazkamer "Cover by Hair Stylistics" CD
Pica Disk (2010) - pica021

Kr 103  -  € 10.00

Featuring: John Hegre, Lasse Marhaug, Iver Sandøy

Description: "Cover by Hair Stylistics" is the July edition of Jazkamer's ongoing 2010 monthly Compact Disc series. This month's album finds Hegre and Marhaug joined by Iver Sandøy playing noisecore. Noisecore is a crossover between grindcore and noise music. One could call it improvised grindcore, as its emphasis is on short bursts of blastbeat drumming backed by screaming vocals and heavily distorted guitar. Often the music is improvised on the spot. Early pioneers of noisecore were bands like Gerogerigegege, 7 Minutes of Nausea and Fear of God, and although the genre never flourished like grindcore, it nevertheless has lead a healthy underground life with bands like Sissy Spacek and October Revolution.

Jazkamer ventured into noisecore territory on 2008's "Art Breaker" album (Smalltown Superjazzz), which featured 59 songs in mere 17 minutes. Many reviewers complained that 17 were even too much. Despite this reaction "Cover by Hair Stylistics" ups the ante with 129 songs in 20 minutes. Because of the Compact Disc-format's limited index ability the songs are presented as one continuous track. Jazkamer also prefers the album to be experienced as a whole, rather than prominence given to individual songs.

For Jazkamer's monthly 2010 series they have invited one different visual artist to contribute every month. The artwork of "Cover by Hair Stylistics" is by the Japanese actor, author and composer Masaya Nakahara. Nakahara is know for him musical work with projects like Hair Stylistics, Suicidal 10CC and Violent Onsen Geisha. On the front cover Nakarhara can be seen drawing the artwork used on the inside of the cover.

"Cover by Hair Stylistics" was recorded during an excruciating two hours in Duper Studios in Bergen. Editing and mixing the material took even longer to complete and involved several coffee-breaks. Pica Disk hopes that Jazkamer fans across the world will enjoy "Cover by Hair Stylistics" for a long time.

Kråkesølv "Trådnøsting" LP
Kråkesølv (2010) - KSLP01

Kr 179  -  € 17.41

Description: Out of Bodø's young and creative music scene emerges the biggest musical surprise of 2009: Kråkesølv! The debut album "Trådnøsting" is released on the band's own label.

Kråkesølv comes from the DIY and hardcore scene in Bodø, located in Northern Norway, and has made a mark with their very own take on indie rock. This album is the best sounding argument for the idea that the most beautiful music can be created outside the big cities.

In much the same way as Sigur Rós, Kråkesølv succeeds in making music of bright international colors while basing their work on their local identity. Like the Northern Norwegian troubadours who went before them they revitalize their dialect and lift everyday language to something that hits a nerve in us all, young and old. The lyrics are playful and anxious at the same time, avoiding constant melancholy by including subtleties and passion.

Specially mastered for vinyl and featuring brand new artwork.

Okkultokrati "No Light For Mass" LP
Ormeyngel / Fysisk Format / Lilla Himmel / Odio Sonoro (2010) - YNGEL05 - FY020LP - LH02 - ODIO27

Kr 120  -  € 11.67

Featuring: Black Race (guitars), Virgintaker (bass), Verminscum (skins), Black Qvisling (throat/lyrics)

Description: Okkultokrati have been around for a couple of years now and feature members from Haust and Hombre Malo. They play bitter and dirty punk metal drenched in the stench of Poison Idea, Celtic Frost and High on Fire!

After their Knarkskog EP from 2009 Okkultokrati now debuts with the album "No Light For Mass". This is a collection of songs that has been subjected to over six months of intensive and focused writing, rehearsing and recording.

The band was born out of a need to transcend the surface of pointless metal and punk that overflows Norway's borders. Why just get inspiration from international unholy culture when just outside the living room window you will find the purest horror you can imagine? Both the Norwegian natural landscape and on the outskirts of every city is filled with all kinds of vile pleasures for young creative souls.

The basis of the mood and the lyrics of "No Light For Mass" is a fascination for atheist metaphysics. While feeding the ego is increasingly taking up space on the Internet and the media, Okkultokrati latches onto the concept of the general state of the New Age movement and its fringed side tracks. If you look behind the colorful rainbows and happy-go-fatal philosophies you will find aborted reincarnations, astral mutilation, and telepathic deportation. Okkultokrati channels the negative energy into 9 tracks of nekro spirituals and encourages spiritual rationality.

The cover was designed by Sebastian Rusten, who also was responsible for cover art on the debut seven inch "Knarkskog" from 2009. Mixed and mastered by Willem Ruben (Haust).

180 gram vinyl in nice looking gatefold sleeve with different artwork than the CD version.

FNS "FNS" LP
Miasmah Recordings (2010) - MIALP012

Kr 150  -  € 14.59

Featuring: Fredrik Ness Sevendal, Inga-Lill Farstad

Description: The latest addition to the Miasmah roster is Oslo based musician FNS aka Fredrik Ness Sevendal. A veteran of the Oslo experimental scene, Sevendal has been associated with several bands over the years: DEL, Slowburn and Kobi. Additionally his previous work has involved collaborations with Makoto Kawabata (Acid Mothers Temple), Mitsuru Tabata (Zeni Geva, Marble Sheep), Mark Francombe (ex-Cranes guitarist), and Bill Wood (1/3 Octave Band).

For his Miasmah debut, FNS treats us to a spectacular excursion into the world of psych-folk instrumentals, with a collection of semi-improvised multi-layered pieces, primarily for acoustic and electric guitar and voice. These lo-fi home recordings capture a sense of astral travel, though explorations into drone, raga-styled melodies and layers of guitar feedback. The immediate allure of FNS’s spectral sound is in the understated nature of the performances – it recalls the magnetic interplay between Tom & Christina Carter's work in Charalambides, the playful free noise of Sunburned Hand Of The Man, the ethereal blues of Loren Connors, and a variety of subtle but undeniable influences from the '70s progressive UK folk scene.

FNS's sound is a sorrowful sound – a death-fuzz, a hazy wailing wall of cavernous guitars, doom-freakout and swirling psychedelia, melded into one then drowned in echo and haze. FNS fires forth cosmic transmissions for the mind and spirit…the result, is nothing short of an aural treat.

This is a remastered reissue of a CD-R released on Clearsnare Records in 2005, featuring a bonus track not included on the original disc. Guest vocals by Inga-Lill Farstad of Children And Corpse Playing In The Streets on one track. Mastered by Helge Sten at Audio Virus Lab.

We talked about doing something together years ago, but agreed we should record it in person, and avoid it being another file-swapping exercise. Finally in 2008 we spent time in my studio in Oslo and now the CD is ready. I'm at a loss on how to describe the music, other than don't let the title fool you." - Lasse Marhaug

Second Layer Records (2010) - SLR003

Kr 103  -  € 10.00

Description: "(...) Pure brutalist noise is what Marhaug has in store for us. This wall of obsessive, oppressive distortion comes by way of guitar, various effects pedals, and various pieces of metal to tremendous effect. This is not a subtle record, the various squalls from the guitar strings being grabbed with bloody fingers and scraped with those pieces of metal have the crazed wall-of-sound frenzy you could hear in any number of Matthew Bower productions setting upon a rumbled low-to-mid range distortion that comes across like a two ton pile of gravel being slowly dumped upon the roof of a tin shed. The album begins with a bang and does not let up until its abrupt conclusion some 30 minutes later. Exhilarating to say the least." - Aquarius Records

FNS "FNS" CD
Miasmah Recordings (2010) - MIACD012

Completely unforgiving in every way, this is the kind of tune you might listen to if you wanted to upset everyone who loves you; insanely grotesque, brain frying composition that it is.
