SVK "SVK" CD-R
Pug-Nose Records (2011) - PNR0005

Kr 75  -  € 7.29

Featuring: Håkon Nybø, Kristian Mäkinen, Claus Sohn Andersen

Description: Since the fall of 2010, the Big Friendly Giant (SVK) has roamed restlessly through cinematic soundscapes; from soothing drones to soaring heights. SVK consists of three musicians that studied Music Technology together at the prestigious Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). “We utilize bass, guitar, drums, a couple of thingamajigs and a watchumacallit to create an expression that’s both progressive and grounded,” explains guitarist and singer Claus Sohn Andersen. “I’d say we hint at both 70’s rock and modern noise-music.”

Håkon Nybø (bass), Kristian Mäkinen (drums) and Claus Sohn Andersen (guitars and vocals) recorded their self-titled debut in various studios at the university and the album consists of almost an hour of pure post-rock bliss. “We’ve played several shows in the Trondheim-area, and appeared at this year’s installment of the festival “Støy På Landet” (Noise in the Countryside). After actively playing together for more than a year we felt it was time to release our debut album,” Sohn Andersen elaborates. “The album is filled with various elements that further support the brilliant build-ups of timbre, dynamics and texture. We’re quite pleased with the outcome.”

The music itself blends characteristics from ambient, jazz, electronica, and experimental music with SVK’s own characteristics and touch. “Our music is best enjoyed with ears open and eyes closed,” says Sohn Andersen.

Nils Rostad "Ujamt" LP
Tallerk Plater (2011) - LP 00111

Kr 189  -  € 18.38

Description: Ujamt has sixteen tracks/compositions, ranging from improvisations to rock-pop-punk tunes. Limited edition of 100 copies with screen printed cover, postcard art and hand-numbered sheets. Nils Rostad is primarily a guitarist. On Ujamt he plays nearly all the instruments and is also responsible for the included postcard art.

"Rostad plays like a pig and that is meant to be a compliment. Fake jazz drumming, humming like a monk, improvising all freely around weird guitar/bass parts, and pressing down random keys on the keyboard, something attempting at a melody, such as in the fifth track on the a-side. Its all actually quite diverse, from quite loud bits of noise like material to more introspective moments. Everything has that direct in y'r face quality, no hiding from there."
- Frans De Waard, Vital Weekly

"Rostad succeeded in disguising his excellence and professionalism in a wrapper of stumbling amateurism. His real skill at the guitar is constantly playing peek-a-boo with the listener."
- Jos Smolders, who mastered the album
